January 28, 2019 –
The New Mexico Center for Therapeutic Riding received a $10,000 grant from The Onota Foundation. The Onota Foundation believes that the most pressing need for humanity today is to rediscover its place in nature and to live in balance with its natural surroundings. The foundation values our Earth as sacred and is devoted to its conservation and restoration, to the guidance of our children in the ways of respecting and caring for her, and to creating a way of life that is ecologically sustainable. The Foundation supports the natural environment, sustainable agriculture, preventative medicine, and education programs to foster 1) creativity and open-mindedness through the arts, 2) respect for the interrelatedness and interdependence of all beings on Earth, 3) individual and collective responsibility for leaving the world a better place for future generations.
The Onota Foundation funding will significantly support the program in two main areas: equine welfare and community impact. Horse expenses quickly compound and are a large stress to the operating budget. Proper materials for stall comfort and recovery, feed nutrition and winter blankets and other items for ongoing care will be purchased for the current herd of eight therapy horses. NMCTR is one of Santa Fe’s only therapeutic riding programs that serves such a wide population of individuals with varying ability and functional levels. Funding will also allow for increased efforts to raise community awareness about the benefits of NMCTR’s programs and the impact it has on the local community.
Thank you to The Onota Foundation for the support!
