NMCTR is happy to announce that we have hired a new Herd Manager,Siv Watkins. Siv began her career as a biologist, graduating with a B.Sc, which she followed up with a Ph.D. She started working with horses in 2016 and learned to ride as a wrangler in the backcountry of New Mexico. Since then, Siv has worked as an instructor of riding and horsemanship, particularly on the trail, and spent time in EAGALA and PATH therapy programs as a horse handler. The vast majority of her training in how to take care of horses has been developed through working with them in the wilderness. Siv especially loves teaching people (and horses) how to understand each other a little better, and she’s dedicated to supporting and advocating for the horses at NMCTR. She spends almost all of her spare time riding out in the desert with her own beloved gelding, Apollo.
